The only thing standing between you and happiness is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't be happy right now.
This story usually involves something you need to acquire or obtain, or something you need to fix or change.
The problem is, there will always be something you need to acquire or obtain. There will always be something you need to fix or change. It's a trap of the mind.
We are constantly waiting on "tomorrow" to deliver the perfect situation that will finally allow us to be happy. But, of course, when tomorrow becomes today, there will be another story about why you need to wait...for tomorrow.
Here and now is all you ever have. This may seem to be an empty platitude because we are bombarded with "present moment" quotes and sayings on a regular basis.
But, it's not an empty platitude - provided you understand it for the simple truths it points to:
Consider this as you go into your weekend. Take some time to observe your thoughts. Do you find they have you waiting on something before you can be happy? Something you need to buy, fix, change, or achieve?
If you strengthen awareness of these stories, they will begin to lose their hold over you. And, you may discover happiness is buried under all that mental noise.
It's analogous to clouds parting to reveal a blue sky that was previously obscured.
